Toyota has dropped more details of its all-new C-HR+ electric SUV, which launches in the UK and Europe later this year.
A core model in the brand’s line-up, it sits above the new Urban Cruiser and below the recently upgraded bZ4X, fleshing out the brand’s EV line-up.
Confusingly, while it takes the same name as the existing hybrid and plug-in hybrid C-HR SUV, it’s a completely standalone, fully electric model that’s actually built on the e-TNGA platform also used by the bZ4X and basically a shortened version of the latter.
Powertrain line-up replicates the updated bZ4X and includes two front-wheel drive models from launch with a choice of 57.7kWh and 77kWh batteries.
The smaller battery pack is paired with a 167hp motor and offers up to 283 miles (455km) of range. The larger battery delivers up to 378 miles (608km), or 350 miles (563km) with larger, 20-inch wheels, and gets a 224hp motor.
At the world premiere earlier this year, Toyota also announced an all-wheel-drive version featuring a 343hp dual-motor set-up – already seen in the bZ4X and one of the most powerful models in the Japanese brand’s European standard model range – but this hasn’t been confirmed for Europe.
An 11kW onboard AC charger is included as standard; the high-grade model uses a faster 22kW unit, which effectively halves the recharge time. A heat pump is included to enhance efficiency.
Max DC charging rate is 150kW, giving a 10 to 80% charge in 28 minutes. Faster DC charging is supported by battery pre-conditioning. All models come with a battery warranty for up to 10 years or to 650,000 miles/1,000,000km driven, subject to an annual battery health check.
Toyota tells us the C-HR+ is “agile, responsive and fun to drive” thanks to its rigid chassis and suspension tuning. The underfloor-mounted battery lowers the centre of gravity and enhances torsional rigidity. The CH-R+ also comes with four levels of regenerative braking, selected using paddle shifts behind the steering wheel.
The C-HR+ also comes with with the latest lightweight Toyota eAxle – consisting of inverter, motor and transaxle – with silicon-carbide (SiC) semiconductors for efficiency and high-power output.
Standout sleek design echoes the frontal styling of the larger bZ4X with Toyota’s signature hammerhead design plus a coupé roofline, and also includes aerodynamic features such as the grille-less face, concealed rear door handles and aero-efficient wheel designs.
Standout Metal Oxide and Mineral exterior colour options are available as a monotone finish or, on high-grade models, a bi-tone combination with a contrasting black roof.
Inside, Toyota promises “class above” interior space with generous headroom and up to 416 litres of storage, while the rear seats – divided 60:40 – can fold flat, while a deck board can be adjusted to offer more space as needed. On selected grades, a power tailgate comes as standard.
UK prices and trims are yet to be confirmed but heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard across all grades. The cabin also gets a 7.0-inch driver’s display and a 14-inch multimedia screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus a voice assistant and 64-colour ambient lighting that also provides an additional warning linked to the car’s Safe Exit Assist. Navigation includes Destination Assist, available through the Drive Connect subscription, which delivers up-to-date routing and real-time traffic data.
Higher-grade models get a heated front windscreen, powered driver’s seat and 20-inch alloy wheels. A range of different upholstery materials are offered, according to model grade, including synthetic leather, a suede-like trim, and fabric – all made using recycled PET materials.
Toyota Safety Sense and advanced driving assistance features come as standard and include a blind spot monitor, adaptive high-beam system headlights and a parking support brake. high grade vehicles gain lane change assist, front cross traffic alert, park assist, and a panoramic view monitor.
Drivers also get access to the MyToyota app, which includes full connection to the Toyota HomeCharge domestic wallbox, so that owners can easily monitor, manage and control their charging via the app.
Drivers can also use the Toyota Charging Network, which provides access to one of the largest pan-European EV charging networks, via the MyToyota app.
The C-HR+ will launch in the UK and across Europe in the fourth quarter of 2025.
